Outlander Season 5 looks to have discarded two characters on Episode 10. Are they really dead and is this what happens in the books?

Caution: There are major spoilers from Outlander Season 5, Episode 10 in this post.

Wow! What an episode of Outlander Season 5. If you thought Episode 10 would be a bridge to the final two episodes of the season, you would have been mistaken. There was a lot happening, and storylines that don’t actually happen in “The Fiery Cross.”

One of the storylines does happen in “A Breathe of Snow and Ashes.” The first death of the episode, though, definitely does not happen in the books. So, the show chooses to keep one character alive for two extra seasons and kills another off? Interesting! It certainly will keep me on my toes.

Anyway, you want to know if that’s it for two characters, right?

Is Gerald Forbes really dead?

The first death of the episode was a surprise one. As he tried to kill Jocasta, Ulysses ended up grabbing Forbes by the neck and snapping it. How fun it was to see Ulysses step into action like this, but it certainly has a knock-on effect with future storylines.

But yes, it certainly seems like he is dead. There’s no coming back from that snapped neck!

I’m not going into the storylines that will change. The storylines might remain but with another character taking the place.

Is that is for Stephen Bonnet?

A big surprise for me was the death of Stephen Bonnet. Okay, I knew it would eventually happen, but not in Outlander Season 5, Episode 10.

Yes, Bonnet is dead. There’s no surviving that gunshot wound to the head. Also, this is exactly how he dies in the books. We’ve just lost this villain earlier than we did in the books.

Rather than drag out Bonnet’s storyline, the show’s writers have decided to pull the storyline from “A Breathe of Snow and Ashes” forward. It makes sense, as Brianna’s storyline of being kidnapped by Bonnet has also been brought forward.

I’m sure there are some out there who don’t like this adaptation. Personally, I love it. I now have no idea which storylines will be used for the final two episodes of Outlander Season 5. I also have no idea which storylines from the books will be used in Outlander Season 6. It’s extremely exciting.
