Brianna should have been more winded after being hit by the bison on Outlander Season 5, Episode 9. Claire should also have been more concerned!
There’s no doubt that Brianna should have been more hurt than she was when hit by the bison on Outlander Season 5, Episode 9. Claire should have also been more concerned, but I’m going to give Claire a pass on this one.
Claire may not have realized that Brianna had been hurt all that badly. When Bree was hit, Claire was busy loading the rifle and shooting the bison. By the time Claire would have reached her daughter, Bree was already up and holding Jemmy. With Bree not looking hurt, there’s a chance Claire didn’t think there was anything wrong.
Claire’s focus will have been on her scared grandson. Lizzie had been understandably terrified of the bison. She likely would have never seen such a great beast in real life, and they are huge! It’s no wonder when the flight/fright/fight response kicked in that it was the fright that took over. Plus, Lizzie remaining still and in between the bison and Jemmy was probably actually a good thing!
Either way, Claire would have been concerned about her grandson. Her daughter was standing, so likely absolutely fine.
At the same time, Jamie had dragged himself outside from the sounds of the commotion. Claire’s attention was very quickly drawn away from Brianna and Jemmy and was back on a very sick Jamie. She had no time to really think about the bison that had hit Brianna at this point.
After this, Brianna showed no signs of injury. I do wonder if there are some deleted scenes for this because the cutting of the scenes felt a little off. However, when everything was put together in the way that it was, it’s no wonder Claire didn’t show more concern for Bree than she did.
So, yeah, I’m going to give Claire a pass on this one. Her actions made the most sense despite Bree being hit so hard by the bison.
