Outlander Season 5, Episode 8 saw Brianna fear for her husband and need him back. Here are the three best Brianna moments from Famous Last Words.
There were certainly some standout moments for Roger throughout Outlander Season 5, Episode 8, but Brianna had some as well. She had a chance to show her inner fire, as she fought to get her husband back from the depths of his trauma.
Bree had moments of doubt but moments of strength. She had a chance to fight hard for someone she believed in and just hope that he could find his way back to her. Here are my three favorite Brianna moments from “Famous Last Words.”
3. Thoughts of the Vietnam War
It was only natural for Brianna to think about the Vietnam War. She would have been in the States at the time of the war, seeing things on TV and even knowing people who had fought there. In fact, one man that fought in the war was her roommate’s boyfriend.
The thought of the boyfriend’s hollow look after the war would have haunted her. However, she wouldn’t have necessarily thought of it in the 18th century. There wasn’t any reason to. It’s funny what the brain can remind you of when something changes. With Roger’s look, she immediately thought to the last time she had seen it and feared the worst.
2. Tough love
Brianna had given Roger space, but that clearly wasn’t working. So, during Outlander Season 5, Episode 8, she decides to give him a little tough love. Sometimes that’s what people need, and during the 1970s (the time she would have come from) tough love was expected after a while.
It had been three months since the ordeal. While we all deal with trauma differently and most accept that now, this wasn’t the case back then. Brianna needed to remind her husband what he was going to lose if he kept going the way he did.
She also needed to remind him that he wasn’t the only one who had ever been through trauma. Brianna understood and it was time for him to fight to the other side.
1. The paper airplane
After the tough love, Brianna finds another way to get through to Roger. She makes him a paper airplane while explaining what the first anniversary gift is and why it’s paper while the 60-year anniversary is diamond. It’s a beautiful speech and shows that she has really thought about how to get through to her husband.
I also love that it ends up being the plane that does help Roger through. And when he’s ready to come back, he allows the plane to fly off the cliff as if that’s carrying all the trauma away from him.
