5 biggest questions from Outlander Season 5, Episode 8
Outlander Season 5, Episode 8 brought us a bridge to the next set of episodes. Here are the biggest questions after the events of the episode.
There was a lot happening on Outlander Season 5, Episode 8. We got a character return, found out what happened to Roger, and got a bridge of sorts to the next set of episodes. Now it’s time to look at the questions the episode left us with.
We’re immediately getting into spoilers for Outlander Season 5, Episode 8. If you haven’t watched it yet, now is the time to do so before reading on.
“Famous Last Words” was certainly an important episode for Roger. We found out that he did survive being hanged (his hand through the rope saved him) but that there was a lot of trauma to work through. Meanwhile, Young Ian made his return to Fraser’s Ridge, but it wasn’t a happy one.
It looked like things were being tied up in a neat bow by the end of the episode, but that’s certainly not the case. Here are the five big questions I have after the episode.
Note: I’m ignoring the books for this post. This is suitable for all to read; just accept that it’s show-first friendly if you’ve read the books.
5. Is that really it for Roger’s PTSD?
Do we really think that the show is going to forget the trauma moving forward? Sometimes, shows do have to forget about it or they have to show it only when necessary. The problem with TV shows is time constraints, which can make some storylines don’t feel that realistic in the future.
I mean, we just have to look at Jamie and Bree to see how the trauma sometimes has to be forgotten or just avoided. The only time it comes up is when there’s a need for it.
I just hope there’s a moment or two for Roger here and there. When someone sings, it’s certainly going to bring up some ill feelings.
4. Will Roger sing again?
Speaking of singing, Roger tried to sing during Outlander Season 5, Episode 8. It was raspy and quiet, but he stopped when he got a flash of everything that happened to him. What we didn’t get to know was whether Roger could still sing.
We know what the books say, but the show is opting for a different journey here and there. Could that be the case here? Will Roger sing again on the show despite not singing again (yet) in the books? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
3. What will Bree and Roger do with the land?
Governor Tryon gifted Roger land as an apology. In other words, he was trying to buy forgiveness. I’m not sure Roger is willing to forgive, but it’s clear her and Bree are accepting the land offer.
What are they going to do with the land? During Outlander Season 5, Episode 8, Roger was building stairs for the roof to the cabin. Is it possible those plans will be forgotten and the house will be built on the new land instead? What about just farming it? Getting their own tenants? There’s a lot to think about.
2. Can we see more of Jamie and Claire with Jemmy?
While Brianna tried to help Roger recover, we got to see Jamie and Claire spend more time with Jemmy. It was absolutely adorable.
We need more of this. In fact, I just want to see Jamie and Claire spend more time with all their grandchildren, including the ones not related by blood.
1. What’s next for Young Ian?
Young Ian had a big storyline with few words on Outlander Season 5, Episode 8. His journey isn’t yet over, but it looks like he’s willing to try to move forward. Will he and Roger form a bond moving forward? I hope to see that.
More importantly, though, what’s next for Young Ian? Will he finally tell his full story to someone? He needs to deal with his own grief and move forward. If anyone, Rollo needs him.
