The title card for Outlander Season 5, Episode 7 saw someone in the 70s playing the guitar. Who could this person be? Was it Roger or Jemmy?

Like all Outlander title cards, the one for “The Ballad of Roger Mac,” had something that would connect to the episode or a character within the episode. During the Outlander Season 5, Episode 7 title card, we got a snippet of someone playing a guitar.

Usually, we’d jump straight to this person being Roger Mac. After all, throughout the fifth season, we’ve seen a lot of focus on Roger’s ability to sing. Naturally, this is foreshadowing for a storyline to come, but was it Roger in this title card?

There are a few things that leave us questioning the possibility. The main thing is that this is someone in what looks to be the 70s. At a pinch, it could be the 80s. Roger isn’t in his own time. This is just something that Roger wants right now.

We know how the episode ends, now. Roger is hanging from a tree and it looks like he could be dead. Those who have read the books know better. Even those who haven’t read the books can likely guess that Roger isn’t dead. There’s a huge storyline to come for the character, but does it connect to Roger in the 70s singing?

It’s possible that the title card isn’t Roger singing. Instead, it could be a grown-up Jemmy who has taken after his dad’s love of music. But this is a man in the 70s or 80s. Even if Jemmy went through the stones, he wouldn’t be a young adult until the late-80s to early-90s. While we do know that people can travel to other times, it’s unlikely to be Jemmy right now.

It looks a lot like Richard Rankin playing the guitar. It could be Roger in the future. Maybe Roger does manage to get back to his own time. Those who have read the books know the chances and the storyline.

What about Roger thinking back to times that he played the guitar and sang in the past? We could have a version of Roger from the 60s and we have a flashback while Roger is recovering. It could be part of the darkness that is taking over him right now.

Yet, it all comes back to the fact that this isn’t just someone playing the guitar. Someone is composing “The Ballad of Roger Mac.” This suggests that it isn’t Roger, either. It all comes back to Jemmy. Is that possible?

Usually, these types of title cards are easy to figure out once you get to the end of the episode. This one is just a little trickier than normal.
