Claire and Jamie head out on the road in Outlander Season 5, Episode 3. It’s time to build the militia, but there’s a necessary stop on the way. It’s time to break down the promo for “Free Will.”

We know there is an episode that is more like a Stephen King story. Many have expected that it will be the one focused on the Beardsleys, and it’s clear that that’s this episode coming up. However, the promo doesn’t give too much away about the stories that you’ll see play out.

5. The men (and Claire) are leaving

It’s time to head out on the road to build the militia. Jamie doesn’t have a choice. And after everything he saw at Hillsborough, he’s partially ready to protect the people from the Regulators. This is more than just a group of men protesting by not paying their taxes or defacing statues. They are now causing bodily harm.

Jamie, Claire, Roger, and Fergus are among those leaving the Ridge. Brianna and Marsali will be left behind with the Bugs to help look after the place.

4. Jamie tells Claire about Bonnet

Jamie isn’t going to keep Bonnet a secret from Claire. He hasn’t really had a chance to tell her about Bonnet surviving up to this point, but he knows that he can’t hold back any longer.

It’s clear that Claire wants to keep the news from Brianna, too. However, little do they know but Brianna already knows. Wouldn’t it be better to tell her so she can prepare if he does turn up?

3. The Beardsley family show up

There’s a moment where Josiah Beardsley is talking to Jamie. He mentions that he is indentured to a man, which brings up the Beardsley story. Those who have read the books know exactly what to expect.

Claire and Jamie head off to the Beardsleys, but there’s clearly something strange going on. Why is it so quiet?

2. Roger is left in charge

As Jamie heads off to deal with the Beardsleys, Roger has to be left in charge of the militia. We’re not told that in the promo, but it’s clear it has to happen. Roger has been named captain after all. So, what could possibly go wrong?

At the very end of the promo, Claire heads up the stairs of the Beardsley house. She’s warned by Fanny Beardsley not to go up there, but finds something shocking. A dead body? Oh, that would be far too easy. Honestly, you’ll need to get ready for a dark and horrific episode.
