5 best lines from Outlander Season 5, Episode 1
The Outlander Season 5 premiere was full of some beautiful moments. It was also full of excellent lines. Here are my five favorite lines from the episode.
Outlander Season 5’s premiere certainly delivered a beautiful episode. It was packed with standout moments for each of the characters, as well as beautiful costumes and sets. As we gear up for the second episode of the season, it’s time to take one final quick look back at the premiere to see the best lines.
These lines come from a variety of characters. I will admit that there’s more focus on Roger than anyone else. I feel like he’s the character I can relate the most to in a way I could relate to Claire in the very first season. However, there are standout and important lines from a number of characters.
I’m not going to include it, but one thing I will state is that I like how the vows didn’t include the “honor and obey” line that the woman would usually say. It’s not used as much now (and a joke I made during my wedding about not obeying my husband because he’s not my master) but would have likely been expected during the time. It paints Brianna as a modern woman, even for the 70s.
No, I don’t suppose I’ve done much building, or farming, for that matter. Nor do I know how to drive a horse or gut a deer or wield a sword, but, uh, but I’m sure I’ll find a suitable trade to provide for my family.
This is an important moment to kickstart the wedding celebrations. Jamie keeps jabbing at Roger throughout the scene, but Roger just brushes it off. I have a lot of respect for him, trying to just deal with a father-in-law who speaks his mind. However, this line says far more to me, which is why it’s one of my favorites.
He’s not just running through the things that he can’t do. He makes it clear that he wants to provide for Brianna and Jemmy. He doesn’t want to keep living out of others’ pockets, and that means finding a trade. Whatever that trade may be. It also hints that he has resigned to stay.
No matter where I am, I will always be your wee girl.
Brianna takes the next line, as she and Jamie get their quiet moment together. There’s a lot that must have been said between them since Brianna told Murtagh that she’d forgiven Jamie during the Outlander Season 4 finale. We get to see a peace between them, and it’s beautiful.
But what’s more important is that she’s accepting that she has two fathers. She says this line without guilt. While she’s proud of being Frank’s daughter, she’s also proud to be Jamie’s daughter. It’s a big step for her.
Says all Presbyterians have hair ticks.
Every episode needs some humor, and Germain brought that. It took a second for me to understand why Jamie would tell Germain that Presbyterians had hair ticks. Then I realized what he meant. Hair ticks…hairy ticks…heretics.
Out of the mouth of babes and all that.
My wife does not want your money, and my son will not have it. Cram it up yer hole, aye?
Ah, I loved Roger for this moment. He stood up and made one thing clear: he wasn’t going to take the vitriol coming from various members of the family. He grows a backbone and tells Jocasta what she can do with her money.
It’s the reaction Jocasta wanted, and I love that about her. She’s a MacKenzie through and through. However, this line also brings us a moment that I adored from the entire episode.
Tryon wants his Scot. I’ll give him a Scot.
Finally, it’s Jamie that gets the last best line from the Outlander Season 5 premiere. After talking things through with Claire, he finds a way to handle the situation. We see the kilt back in a moment that sends shivers down the spine.
I loved the entire moment, but this line is the one that stands out. It’s all the more important considering what we know is coming up.
