Why keeping the kilt for Outlander Season 5 was perfect for the TV show

Jamie put his kilt back on in the Outlander Season 5 premiere. While it was done in the books in Drums of Autumn, keeping it for now in the show was perfect.

One thing many book fans disliked was Jamie not wearing his kilt in Outlander Season 4. It’s something that’s pulled out early in the fourth book, but was never even mentioned in the fourth season. However, all that changed with the Outlander Season 5 premiere, and I believe it was the right decision for the TV series.

I do keep the book and the show completely separate. While there are times that I’d love to see a storyline from the books included in the show, I understand that there isn’t always time. There have already been various changes throughout the show that have led to other elements changing in the show, so it really is best to keep them as two separate entities.

I also look at the TV show as a TV show. While something may be included in the book, it may not pack a powerful punch in the TV series. That was the case for the kilt for me. By keeping it for the Outlander Season 5 premiere, Jamie putting on the kilt felt more powerful and sent shivers down my spine.

This wasn’t just a case of him reminiscing the past or him dressing up for an event. Putting on the kilt made a statement to all. Governor Tryon mentioned Jamie being a strong Scot, and that’s exactly what Jamie decided to give. him. Putting on the kilt was a sign that he’s not going to give up his roots, and it’s certainly going to set a tone for Tryon moving forward. It’s no wonder he’s going to want Jamie to wear the British Army uniform.

Putting on the kilt was also important for the men at the Ridge. Jamie was standing in front of them as a leader, almost as a laird. He was asking them to follow him, using the burning of a cross to mark a call to arms. It’s a strong Scottish tradition that could have been forgotten about.

There was more of a meaning behind pulling the kilt out. This was a show of strength, honor, and tradition. It speaks volumes to everyone around, and made the perfect moment in the Season 5 premiere.
