Who was the baby Marsali was holding in the Outlander Season 5 premiere?

If you suspected Marsali was holding baby Jemmy in the Outlander Season 5 premiere, you’re not alone. However, Jemmy wasn’t the baby. Who was it?

Marsali was spotted with a baby during the Outlander Season 5 premiere. It was easy for many to suspect that she was holding baby Jemmy. That’s what any good auntie would do, right? Well, it certainly wasn’t Jemmy, so who was the baby?

Lizzie was holding Jemmy, which isn’t that surprising. She remains Brianna’s indentured servant for all intents and purposes, even if Brianna doesn’t view her in that way. Of course, Lizzie would be expected to act as nanny to the baby of her mistress. That led to many Outlander fans questioning who Marsali’s baby was.

Those who have read the books knew exactly who this baby was. There was a brief mention to offer a hint, but nothing concrete during the premiere. It’s left for people to discuss and infer.

The baby is Joan, Marsali and Fergus’s second child. It has caused some questions about the timeline, but I’m choosing to overlook all of that. It’s not worth the headache. And quite honestly, questions about the timeline can’t be as bad as trying to figure out whether the books/show starts in 1945 or 1945 and certainly can’t be as bad as timeline problems in Grey’s Anatomy and Supernatural.

But I digress. In “The Fiery Cross,” Marsali and Fergus have a second baby a little younger than Jemmy. She’s called Joan after Marsali’s younger sister. Something you probably will have noticed is that Fergus touches Marsali’s stomach, inferring that she’s pregnant again. As Claire points out, the two will be able to keep the Ridge populated.
