Outlander’s Jamie Fraser is definitely a man ahead of his time

Jamie Fraser may have been born in the 18th century, but his views and opinions make him a man ahead of his time. That’s the case in Outlander Season 5.

Since the very beginning of Outlander, it was clear that there was something different about Jamie Fraser. While he may be from the 1700s, he’s not a man of the 1700s. During Outlander Season 5, we’re going to see that even more.

Jamie is a man ahead of his time in many aspects. There are still parts of him that see the world with an 18th-century viewpoint, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. He understands the situations of the time and what it takes to survive. However, that doesn’t mean his views and opinions have to be that of the men from the same time period.

We saw it when it came to beating Claire—promising never to do it again—and then when it came to listening to Claire’s knowledge of the future. Throughout the second season, he turned to Claire for advice and for tips. Not just because she was from the future and had knowledge of things to come, but because he respected and trusted her.

It’s something we’ll see again in the fifth season. Readers of the book will know what’s to come, but there are many out there who aren’t that far ahead yet and those who have decided not to read the book for whatever reason. Because of that, I’m not going to say exactly what’s to come. What I will say is that the attitude Jamie has in Outlander Season 5 is similar to that of Season 2.

This is something Sam Heughan touches on in an interview with Parade. Heughan notes that Jamie wants to talk things through with Claire. She’s like a sounding board for him, but not just to rant.

They’re a team, and that’s just the way Jamie likes it. He wants to know that she’s there to listen to his news and help him think things through. And this certainly isn’t the first time he’s wanted that. Remember his anger when he found out Claire was at the hospital in Paris instead of being at home waiting for him?

It’s a part of Jamie that he’s enjoyed playing in Outlander Season 5. And I can say after screening some of the episodes, Claire and Jamie together do not disappoint!
