Worried about the future of Outlander? Please don’t. Considering everything Jeffrey Hirsch has said, Outlander Season 7 is likely happening.
As we get ready for Outlander Season 5, it’s normal to start looking ahead. We know that Season 6 is happening, but there should be talks of Outlander Season 7 soon. After all, there needs to be to avoid too long of a Droughtlander after Season 6.
The good news is that Season 7 is most likely going to happen. Jeffrey Hirsch has been extremely positive about the series, even talking about spin-offs and side stories for the series. The hope is to grow the universe completely.
And that makes sense considering the series is one of the most popular on the premium cable network. Whether it’s live viewings through the channel or directly through the STARZ App, STARZ knows that it has a good show. There’s no point in getting rid of it when there’s still so much story to tell.
Even with deviations here and there, the bones of Diana Gabaldon’s story is still there. It’s still possible to tell the seventh, eighth, and upcoming ninth books. There will be a 10th in the series, so in theory, this is a series that could easily go up to Season 10.
All it takes is for the audience to be there. Is there really any risk of the audience completely disappearing? After all, the move to Netflix (whether Hirsch liked it or not) has easily done wonders for the series. More people have found it and more will be heading to STARZ for the fifth season. The extra promotion this year will also help to pull viewers into the series.
Even if the live ratings drop, the app is still going to be a place for viewers to watch. We don’t get to see those ratings unless STARZ chooses to release them, but we know that they’ll be higher than the live ratings that Neilsen gets access to.
With all that being said, things are looking good for the future of the show. We know that Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe will continue the show for as long as it takes to finish it. The showrunners are in it for the long haul. It’s really all about the network, and things are looking bright.
We likely won’t hear about Outlander Season 7 for a while, though. STARZ and Sony will have talks right now but there will be nothing big until Season 5 starts airing so STARZ can make sure the series is still viable. The bigger talks will likely start while Season 6 filming goes ahead, with the hope of a two-season renewal again.
