Outlander Season 5: Roger will do whatever it takes in new promo
STARZ is bringing more and more Outlander Season 5 promotional materials, and the latest continues the focus on Roger. He’ll do whatever it takes.
Roger is in a difficult position in Outlander Season 5, but he knows who he loves the most. In the latest promotional material from STARZ, there’s another focus on MacKenzie, showing that he’s going to do whatever it takes.
After initially sharing a promo poster for the character, we now get a short clip. While the image is just of the poster, there’s a voiceover from Richard Rankin in character.
He starts of sharing what he doesn’t have. Coming from the future, he doesn’t have money or land. He’s in a difficult position, especially when he doesn’t really want to stay in the past as it is. He always had the intention of returning to his own time, but that isn’t going to happen now.
During “The Fiery Cross,” this worry of having nothing to give Brianna does come up. Jocasta isn’t all that impressed with what he doesn’t have. And we know in the fifth season that Jamie clearly judges Roger for not being able to protect Brianna in a “man’s” way.
Despite all that, Roger isn’t giving up. His family is in the past. He wants to protect Brianna and Jemmy, making sure they’re loved and safe. There’s one thing that he has to be able to do that: time. He makes it clear that he will do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of the people he loves.
When will this conversation come up? It’s not all that clear. It’s possible that he’s talking to Jamie, making it clear to his father-in-law that just because he’s not a man of the time doesn’t make him useless. He’ll figure out what he’s going to do in the past.
He could also be talking to Jocasta. There’s a scene between them coming up, likely one that involves Jocasta making it clear that she views Roger as a gold digger rather than a loving husband. Granted, she has no idea where Roger has come from or what he has in his own time, so it’s not all that surprising she thinks the worst of him. It would be good to see an impassioned speech from him.
