The new year is here. As everyone else is making New Year Resolutions and looking at growth, we're looking at the Outlander characters. Here's Brianna.

Brianna went through some major storylines in Outlander Season 4. In Season 5, she's going to experience more, although nothing quite as traumatic as the fourth season. This does mean she'll want to prepare and the best way to do that is through some New Year Resolutions.

There are five that she should probably make in 2020. Are you ready to delve into where she can develop more?

5. Don't forget about herself

As a new mom, she's going to put Jemmy first a lot. That's only natural and it's understandable. As a wife in the 18th century, and one to a man who doesn't have any 18th-century skills, she'll also put Roger before herself. It's important to put herself first now and then.

In the novels, Brianna accepts help from her mom when offered. She doesn't martyr herself, but I do fear that the show will overlook some of this and have her put everyone before herself all the time. Let's remember that she's still a person and needs to look after herself.

4. Don't feel guilty for leaving Frank "behind"

During Outlander Season 4, Episode 7, Brianna faced a dilemma within. Going back to the past meant putting Jamie before Frank. She felt guilty for that. Then she struggled with finding something to call Jamie, knowing that Frank was "Daddy."

It's important that she remembers she's allowed to view both Jamie and Frank has her fathers. She doesn't have to choose one over the other, but at the same time, she doesn't have to feel guilty for leaving Frank "behind." Frank knew this would happen and set her up for a life in the past, so he wants her to be there and be happy.

3. Remember Roger's sacrifices

Brianna does have a habit of overlooking some of Roger's wishes or wants. We just have to look at how Roger wanted to marry her before sleeping with her but she didn't want the marriage to see her thought process sometimes.

One of Brianna's resolutions should be to remember all the sacrifices Roger has made. This doesn't mean she owes him anything, but she needs to understand the reasons behind his wants to respect him. That's especially important when Roger makes it clear that he doesn't' really want to stay in the past.

2. Take a step back in an argument

Like Jamie, Brianna has a stubborn and fiery personality. She acts before she thinks. One of the resolutions Jamie needs to make is to take a step back in an argument and look at things before acting. Brianna needs to do the same thing.

Before she lets her temper get the better of her, she needs to think about what her words or actions will do. With a child in tow, more family around her, and a war brewing, there are going to be disagreements.

1. Find someone to trust

I'm not saying that anything that happened to Roger was directly Brianna's fault. Nor am I saying that Brianna had to open up to someone about Bonnet being the one to rape her. However, she does need to find someone to trust. That was why Brianna didn't open up. She felt ashamed, especially when she found out everything Bonnet had done to Claire and Jamie.

This person to trust doesn't even have to be one specific person. She could have Roger for some situations and her mother for others. It would be great if we could see her bond more with Marsali or Fergus.
