Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 ratings look back: The tick back up

We're looking back at Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 today. The ratings ticked back up, making it clear fans were ready for a particular moment.

Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 brought some extremely important moments, moments that fans had waited all season for. Is it really that surprising that the ratings ticked back up? Plus, I still believe that the time of year affected the ratings for Episode 8.

On Dec. 30, 2018, Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 aired for the very first time. It's the year anniversary of seeing Brianna finally finding her father and meeting him for the very first time (not a reunion!) and for her to reunite with her mother. Meanwhile, Roger set off sail with Stephen Bonnet again, despite wanting to find Brianna and make up with her.

The episode had its highs and lows. Brianna met both Murtagh and Young Ian. We got to see Lizzie's infatuation with Young Ian. Then Brianna shared the truth about the events that happened with Bonnet, and even the man who it was. And, of course, we ended with the moment Jamie believed Roger was the man who attacked and raped his daughter, so he beat Roger almost to death.

So, what did the ratings look like? They were good. According to TV Series Finale, the Live + Same Day total audience went up 10% back over the million and the demo was up16% to a 0.14 rating. While some of this will have been due to one of the major moments finally happening, the upward ticks were also linked to the fact that more people were home to watch live. There's a reason networks don't air new episodes of top TV shows over the winter break, and Outlander Season 4, Episode 8 proved it.

Regardless, this was the moment the show was back on track with the ratings. For the most part, it was all up from here, ready to bring us the season highs in both demo and total audience.
