During The Fiery Cross, Roger has the chance to discuss faith with Duncan Innes. Is that something Outlander Season 5 will need to skip?

Warning: There are some early book spoilers in this post that could come up in Outlander Season 5.

“The Fiery Cross” starts with 14 chapters that take place over one day. There’s a lot going on, but not all of it will be included in Outlander Season 5. Will one of those moments factor in one of Roger’s moments? It’s something I ponder on Day 19 of the 25 Days of MacBree-mas.

The moment in question is about faith. He and Duncan Innes discuss their Protestant beliefs. Unlike the majority of other people around them, they’re not Catholic, and they may be looked down upon because of that. Although, they are the right religion for the Colonies, as Catholicism is outlawed in the North Carolina colony.

With no Duncan Innes right now (possibly in the future), it does make this Roger moment one that could be removed from the series. After all, who else would he have to immediately talk about faith? He could talk to Jamie or Claire or even Brianna—and that does come up in the novel just before his wedding—but he needs someone else like him to fully discuss it and ponder everything.

I get the feeling that a lot of the moments before the wedding in “The Fiery Cross” are going to be skipped or moved to a different part of the season. That’s especially the case with the sneak peek, which opens to Jamie and Roger discussing Brianna, the wedding, and Roger’s lack of skills for the 18th century. This isn’t part of the beginning of “The Fiery Cross,” suggesting there’s a big change to the lead-up to the wedding.

However, I do think some discussion of faith will come up. After all, there would need to be one when it comes to the baptism and possibly when it comes to whether Roger and Brianna have a Catholic or Presbetaryian wedding.
