4. Bonding with Jocasta over Ellen

There’s a moment often overlooked in the later episodes of Outlander Season 4. Brianna and Jocasta get the chance to bond. More importantly, Brianna gets the chance to learn more about her grandmother.

Jocasta notes how much Brianna is like Ellen. There’s the story of Ellen running off with Brian and getting pregnant so that Colum and Dougal couldn’t force Ellen to marry someone else. Was it really that surprising that Brianna would hold out for Roger or just go about life in the way that she wanted?

It was a beautiful moment between the two women. While it’s clear that Jocasta wants to follow the expectations of the times, she also doesn’t completely want to dampen Bree’s spirit.

3. Backing off from blackmailing Lord John Grey

I don’t like that Brianna tries to blackmail Lord John Grey. However, I was happy to see her back off from that almost right away. She knew it was wrong, and there was no way she could actually go through with her side of the blackmail, even if Lord John Grey refused to marry her.

It showed her initial wants, her willingness to try to call someone’s bluff, but also her morals. She wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she did ruin Lord John Grey’s life, especially when she knew he was friends with Jamie.

We got to see her grow up quickly in the past. This was one of those moments.
