Outlander Season 4, Episode 6 ratings throwback: Audience back over the million

On Dec. 9, 2018, Outlander Season 4, Episode 6 aired for the first time. With returning characters, it was warming to see the audience back over the million.

Outlander Season 4, Episode 6 aired for the first time on Dec. 9, 2018. It would be an episode full of positivity and heartwarming moments, especially as Lord John Grey and Claire Fraser had the chance to really talk while she treated him for measles. To mark the anniversary, we’re looking back at the ratings for the episode.

Knowing that Lord John Grey was returning meant viewers were excited. We also knew that William would appear in the episode, which meant a reunion we didn’t quite realize we needed in the fourth season. With all that in mind, it’s not that surprising to hear that more viewers tuned in.

The total audience jumped back over the million, after increasing by 7% from the previous episode. It was a sign that reunions, familiar characters, and emotional moments were exactly what the viewers needed at this point. We needed relationship developments, especially when it came to John and William, two who will become more important in future seasons as long as the show follows the books.

Sadly, the demo didn’t tick up. It saw a small 5% drop to 0.16. However, unlike network TV where the demo is extremely important, this means little to STARZ. After all, the premium cable network knows that some of the 18-49 demo isn’t quite their audience (Outlander viewers are in older demographics). Plus, these views are only those that come from the channel and not based on the views that come through on the app.

Regardless, the ratings were a great sign for the show. Even the 5% drop was relatively steady, with the demo only dropping a point. Season 4 had found its footing.
