Outlander Season 3, Episode 2 ratings look back: A downward tick
Continuing this year’s trend of looking back at the ratings on episode anniversaries, we’re onto Outlander Season 3, Episode 2. How did the episode do?
Outlander Season 3, Episode 2 premiered on this day two years ago. Sadly, the ratings dipped a little, but that dip turned out to be nothing to worry about. In fact, it was also nothing unusual.
Ratings tend to dip after premiere episodes. Fans tune in at first to see what the show is like, eager after a long break. Then the following week some will decide they don’t want to still watch. Others will decide that they want to watch at a different time. It’s worth remembering that the TV Series Finale ratings are taken from Nielsen’s live + same day ratings (and only from the live channel).

Something else that is also worth pointing out is that this episode could have seen more people sign up for STARZ. They used the first episode as a guide on the channel to see if signing up to the app would be worth it.
Episode 2 was also a difficult one. All fans wanted to see was Claire and Jamie reunite after 20 years apart. However, we spent three episodes seeing their lives over those 20 years.
This episode saw Claire in the years after giving birth to Brianna, as she figured out what to do in Boston to make her happy. Jamie spent the time in hiding, only handing himself over to allow Jenny to collect the reward money and to protect his whole family after Fergus had his hand chopped off.
This episode had one of the most powerful Fergus/Jamie scenes of the whole series. It also cemented the type of man Jamie was, always putting himself last to ensure the safety and happiness of others.
