Outlander Season 4 featurette: Focusing on Claire and Jamie’s relationship
Claire and Jamie’s relationship is the cornerstone of Outlander. In Season 4 we saw a change, having them settled together. Here’s a sneak at the featurette that focuses on that bond.
Outlander Season 4 brought a change to Claire and Jamie’s relationship in a good way. They’re settled together, knowing what each other thinks or feels. They’re happy together, finally in one place without the constant threat of being pulled apart.
This relationship that is the cornerstone of the series needs to stop having as much drama thrown between it. Who didn’t roll their eyes at Jamie being taken away from Claire at the end of Season 3’s penultimate episode? Sure, we got an excellent Lord John Grey moment in the finale because of it, but it was eye-rollingly annoying!

Yes, the two were apart at times but they weren’t forced apart. They were simply apart because that’s life and work — and I type that as a wife sitting at home with the kids while my husband is away for work for the next month. It’s what couples even now do.
With the Outlander Season 4 Blu-ray collection, there’s a featurette about their relationship in the fourth season. A sneak peek of that featurette shows Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan both share how the two are more settled. They’re happy together and are far more deeply connected and secure than they ever have been.
I certainly noticed that throughout the series. When Claire has faced the loss of Adawehi, she just needs Jamie to hold her. He doesn’t question anything and he doesn’t try to get answers from her. He simply holds her tight, giving her his strength that she needs at that moment.
The theater scene during Episode 8 was also a standout moment for me. Jamie knew that Claire would create a distraction for him so he could save Murtagh. She didn’t question his motives or his decisions. She knew this was what he needed and she was willing to offer that help.
Throughout the years, the relationship has changed. It changes in the books and that has to happen on the screen too. We should see more of this in Outlander Season 5.
