When will Diana Gabaldon be finished writing Outlander Book 9?

While Outlander Season 5 is filming, all eyes are on Outlander Book 9. Just when will Diana Gabaldon be finished with the writing to get it to the fans?

All eyes are on when Outlander Book 9 will be finished. This isn’t an attempt to rush Diana Gabaldon but just goes to show how eager fans are about reading the next installment of the series. While giving us an insight at some of the chapter titles, Gabaldon has also shared when she hopes to be finished with the writing.

While sharing the latest Daily Lines for “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone,” a fan asked about when the novel would be released. Gabaldon shared that she hopes it will take another three months to finish up the writing. There are still a few sections left, as she bridges gaps later in the writing process. However, she’s also working on other elements of the novel, including the chapter titles and the back cover.

It looks like the publishers are still eager to get the book out later this year. That’s been the slated date. With another three months or writing, we’re looking at possibly the start of September for the publishers to get it. We could see the novel in the stores by Christmas but we may have to wait until early 2020 depending on the publishers’ timeframes around the world.

A late 2019 date would still be in line with earlier expectations for the novel. Last year, Gabaldon had shared that 2019 was the likely year of publication but she wouldn’t definitely state that year. After all, it can only be published once the writing has finished. At least we know she’s working on the book, unlike A Game of Thrones fans, who are getting prequel novels out of George R.R. Martin instead of the sixth book.
