4. Claire learning new skills

While at the hospital, Claire gets the chance to the royal executioner as a healer. It’s amazing how a man who can do necessary evils can also be a healer. However, that’s not the part that I love the most.

Claire continues to remind us that she was a battlefield nurse, but she hasn’t done everything. There are still medical skills she can learn and she pays close attention to make sure she picks them up throughout her time at the charity hospital.

It would have been easy to avoid showing this for the sake of time. However, it was important to show Claire’s character development and later interest in becoming a doctor.

3. Fergus notices everything

Within two episodes, we fell in love with Fergus on Outlander Season 2. This episode delivered this perfect moment between Fergus and Murtagh, helping to show their bond that we wouldn’t realize would be important for Season 4.

Fergus shows that he’s more than a pickpocket. He observes things well. At just a glance, he knows that Mary Hawkins has been crying and he knows that Suzette has no shame in being with any man who shows her interest.

His interest in women’s emotions shows the type of man he’ll be in the future. It’s not just Jamie who rubs off on him. It’s just part of who he is deep down.
