Outlander is finally coming to Netflix U.S. While it may be only the first two seasons, it could be the best thing to happen to the series.
Netflix U.S. is finally getting Outlander. It’s only the first two seasons, but this is better than nothing. What could Outlander on Netflix mean for the series?
Many international viewers will already know the series is on their Netflixes. However, U.S. viewers have had to keep their STARZ subscription or purchase through Amazon Video if they’ve wanted to watch digitally. Now Netflix will give them another option.

One thing is for certain, there’s the ability to draw more viewers in. And I write this as a Canadian who started watching the series because it showed up on Netflix Canada. Due to other shows I’d watched on the service, it was recommended to me through the streaming site and, since I’d already heard something about it, I finally gave it a chance.
Within a weekend, I’d binged the first two seasons. This is something many U.S. residents will now get a chance to do. This opens the door to many new people joining the fandom. There’s no denying that the first two seasons are the strongest, giving people a reason to check out the next two seasons on STARZ before the fifth season eventually premieres.
Getting more fans will lead to a brighter future. I know there are a lot of worries about the series after Season 6, especially with Chris Albrecht stepping down as STARZ CEO. Many couldn’t help but note that the live views had dropped between Seasons 3 and 4 (although the Nielsen ratings don’t count the STARZ app viewers).
As new viewers watch the series through Netflix, STARZ will realize there are more financial benefits to keeping the show on the air. There’s a chance we’ll get all 10 (there will eventually be 10, according to Diana Gabaldon’s current plans) novels will be transformed into screen.
We’ve seen Netflix help other shows. The CW is a network that routinely benefits from its shows heading to Netflix. Dynasty and Riverdale have gained second (and more) seasons because of the performance on Netflix. All American just yesterday got a second season renewal because of its Netflix performance.
