Outlander Season 5 filming is underway. While we’ve got our first photo of Claire and Jamie, there are lots of questions about Brianna and Roger. The biggest is where the season will pick up their story.
There are many questions about Outlander Season 5. We’ve had the chance to see the first photo of Claire and Jamie, but there are still plenty of questions about Brianna and Roger. The biggest right now is where the fifth season will pick up their particular story.
Book fans will know where “The Fiery Cross” picks up, but there was also a fairly large chunk of the end of “Drums of Autumn” missing. I don’t want to share exactly what that was for those who haven’t read the books and want to remain book spoiler-free, but there was a chunk of the story that would be needed before picking right up with storyline from “The Fiery Cross.”

So, where could Outlander Season 5 pick up with the storyline? Radio Times did an interview with Richard Rankin, who shared that there would be a small time jump but it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be anything substantial. From the sounds of things, the time jump allows for the Frasers and MacKenzies to get to Fraser’s Ridge and start their lives together.
Roger and Brianna spent the majority of Outlander Season 4 trying to find their way to each other. While Brianna searched for her parents, Roger searched for Brianna. And then when Roger attempted to get back to Brianna after being taken by the Mohawks, Brianna hoped her parents could bring Roger back to her.
They haven’t had the chance to find a rhythm together. Their whole relationship has had some sort of distance between them. The fifth season is going to be a chance to find out how to live together and be parents to their son.
The fifth book picks up where the two have had some time to grow closer and find that rhythm. With the show having to cut out a number of scenes due to time constraints, it would feel odd and out of sync to just pick up where “The Fiery Cross” starts, so I don’t think we’ll see this sudden time jump. I think, based on Rankin’s words, we’ll get some time to see the two together, maybe an episode before jumping straight into the Outlander Book 5 storyline.
