Outlander Season 5 filming has started: Day 1 and 2 on social media
Outlander Season 5 filming is now officially onto Day 3. It’s time to look back at Days 1 and 2 to see what we can take away.
It’s official. Outlander Season 5 filming has begun. Sam Heughan quickly shared photos and videos on set on the first day and the other cast members followed suit on Day 2.
There’s a lot to take from the various images. We got to see much of the same crew back on set. While we knew Terry Dresbach was leaving as costume designer, most of the crew was sticking around for another season. Day 2 also showed us some familiar actor faces on set, including Cesar Domboy.
It’s time to look at the first two days of filming from social media posts. Are you ready for an exciting start to the season?
Matthew B. Roberts gave us the notification that Outlander Season 5 filming had begun. After a short stint off Twitter, he’s returned and has given us all the positive news we’d hoped to hear early this month.

Sam Heughan had shared some footage in his Instagram story, with some behind the scenes looks. He was extremely busy on Day 1 and it’s clear that the filming days remain long. This isn’t that surprising. There are certainly going to be plenty of night shoots along the way this season.

The good news for the actors is that they may get some days off. There are more main characters now. While some fans don’t like that, it’s a good thing for the overall story to see the Fraser family grow. It also means the actors get some time between episodes, as there are more people that production needs to film. However, on the sets when all characters are involved, the days could become much longer as more takes may be needed.
During the first day, it looked like just a small number of the main cast was needed. By Day 2, more cast members were on set. Caitriona Balfe got a photo of Cesar Domboy, showing off his fake hand. It’s clear that he was in costume, which means Fergus will be part of the first episode.
W Network also joined in with celebrations that Outlander Season 5 filming had begun. While STARZ tends to be relatively quiet during Droughtlander, Canada’s W Network, which now airs the seasons when on air and likely will for the fifth season, has kept us entertained. Wemayy get more as the filming continues.
One thing I hope to see as filming is now underway is some “Heard on Set” moments from Maril Davis. These didn’t happen every day during the fourth season filming, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for them on social media.
