24. When Jamie comforted Claire after learning her husband was gone

When it happened: Season 1, Episode 2 when Claire and Jamie finally made it to Castle Leoch

Why it happened: It had already been a wild ride up to this point. However, now that Claire was in some sort of safety and was able to let her guard down, she was able to think about everything that had happened to her. Finally accepting she was in the past, she realized that her husband wasn’t alive.

Why it was so romantic Jamie didn’t know Claire all that well at this point. She was the woman who had helped fix his shoulder without making the break any worse. This was the woman who everyone else thought was a spy and he’d already fallen in love with her.

Jamie could have walked away. Any other man wouldn’t have listened to her, let alone comfort her. Yet, he had already opened up about Black Jack Randall to her and now he was willing to be there for her when she just needed someone to listen to her. He understood she was grieving and at no point assumed that she was faking everything.

It was a beautiful and romantic moment that showed the type of man Jamie is. It also showed the growing bond between the two at such an early point in the series.
