6. The goodbye at the stones

When it happened: Season 2, Episode 13

Why it happened: Realizing that the Battle of Culloden was going to happen and they were all likely to die, Jamie had to get Claire away. He was willing to sacrifice himself, but he needed to make sure his wife and unborn child were safe. Jamie took her to the stones at Craigh na Dun and begged her to go back to Frank, where she would be safe.

Why it was so romantic: It was a huge sacrifice for both Claire and Jamie. Claire was willing to die with Jamie, while Jamie was willing to give up his whole happiness. He had no idea if Frank would be on the other side of the stones for Claire, but he just had to hope. It was safer than anything.

At the stones, we got this emotional goodbye. They both had a final moment together, gaining that final connection and hour or so together before they were, what they believed, would be permanently separated.

I know this wasn’t everything that was in the books. This moment did have the carving of the initials (not something I enjoyed that much, if I’m honest), but the show did a beautiful job of bringing every single emotion within the scene.
