2. Supporting Brianna in the argument

This is a moment that has divided the fandom, but I view it as one of Claire’s best moments. When Brianna needed her the most, Claire was there for her. She could have tried to play Switzerland between Jamie and Brianna, but she was a mother; just a mother.

It was a difficult thing for Claire to do when it comes to her love for Jamie, but she knew that her daughter needed someone. Brianna is out of her time and culture. A girl of the 50s and 60, she has more freedom and more rights where she comes from and it’s hard for her to accept some of the elements of the 1700s.

That’s really not surprising. Just look at how long it took Claire to accept the differences. She’s still not quite managed it fully. And she didn’t have to go through the trauma of rape.

Claire managed to separate herself as a wife and focused on just being a mother. It’s something we haven’t really had the chance too much to see previously. She was deteached from Brianna, focused on her work. You can tell Brianna was closer to Frank, but this is Claire’s chance to make up for everything.
