2. Making sure the sex was good

After consummating their handfasting, Brianna and Roger had the chance to just lie with each other. And that’s when one of the funniest moments of the episodes came about, but it was also romantic in its own way.

Brianna wasn’t sure whether she was any good at sex. It was her first time and she had a few girls to live up to, so she had no idea whether what she did was right or wrong. And it wasn’t easy to tell from Roger whether that was the case.

As she put it, he looked like he’d been knocked out. I’ll admit to bursting out in laughter at this point and bless the look on Roger’s face in this moment.

But while this was funny, it also showed that Brianna isn’t as selfish as she often seems — and she does come across as selfish (just like her mother) at times. I guess it’s a Beauchamp trait. At this moment, she showed that she wanted to be a good partner in the bedroom for Roger. I’m guessing if the sex wasn’t any good, she’d have asked for Roger to teach her.

Which links to another reason why I loved this moment. The whole scene reminded me of Claire and Jamie’s wedding. One experienced in sex and the other a virgin, both hoping that the sex was good for each other. It had the perfect balance of nostalgia but something new to Outlander Season 4.
