Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 Inside the World: A look at parallels between characters

While I noticed the parallels between Brianna’s journey in the past and Claire’s trek through the jungle, Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 was full of many more. The EPs shared a parallel between two side characters through the Inside the World feature.

After every episode, there’s an Inside the World segment. This is a time for the EPs to share their thoughts on the episode and reasons behind some of the storylines. For Outlander Season 4, Episode 7, there was the focus on the parallels between characters.

Recently, I’d pointed out parallels between Brianna and Claire, but there were also parallels between Frank and Laoghaire, two characters who have never met and never will do. However, it’s the similarities between them that makes this episode so powerful.

Frank and Laoghaire both love people who have never loved them back. It’s a conversation Brianna and Joanie have as they bond in the garden, although not to a massive extent considering Joanie’s age. However, it is also a reason Brianna gets so defensive of her mother. She knows that Jamie couldn’t love Laoghaire as much as she loved him because Claire didn’t have that ability to love Frank.

The Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 Inside the World also touched on the Frank flashbacks, with jokes of how the EPs wonder how they’d mess up the books. It sounds like they listen to everything book-first fans are saying but know that this is the version of the story they want to tell. After all, a TV show needs more development for all characters than books sometimes need.
