Outlander: 25 most gut-wrenching moments so far

23. Robbed by Bonnet
Season 4 has already shaped up to be a historically hard season, but it was the premiere that really had everyone in tears.
Claire and Jamie are not ones for gifts, they really only need each other. The only thing that’s really been gifted between them was Claire’s custom wedding ring made of the key to Lallybroch.
They speak fondly of the ring and how Claire only ever needs it in order to be close to Jamie. Keep in mind she also holds on to her ring from Frank as a way to honor his life and their marriage.
If that’s not foreboding I don’t know what is.
Unfortunately, by the end of the episode, the ring would be gone.
The man who Claire and Jamie help to escape, Stephen Bonnet, ends up robbing the Frasers in the middle of the night, killing one of their companions. In the process, Bonnet steals all the gems and demands Claire’s rings.
While Bonnet’s men are beating Jamie, Claire reluctantly takes off both her rings and shoves them in her mouth. Bonnet grabs her around the throat. He is able to retrieve one from her mouth before she swallows the other. She has no idea which ring was saved and which ring was stolen until she pukes up the ring to reveal Frank’s ring and realizes Bonnet has the other.
I think everyone watching gasped in sadness for her loss.
