1. Claire and Jamie’s separation

Hands down this is the most heartbreaking moment I think I’ve ever had to watch on television. The love between Claire and Jamie is undeniable and is clearly demonstrated at the moment they are forced to depart.

They came together to save Claire’s life and they will be forced apart for the very same reason. They had fought long and hard together to change history and win the Battle of Culloden.

However, when it became clear that Jamie would undoubtedly die alongside his men on the battlefield, he forced Claire to travel back through the stones so that she (and their unborn child) would be safe in her time.

He understood that if he should die, she would not be able to survive in the 1700s alone. Though he did not want to live without her, he chose her well-being over his own. Claire didn’t want to leave, but she agreed reluctantly.

If that moment wasn’t tear-jerking enough, the minutes after she crosses over would break even the hardest person. Claire is seen wandering the road and asks a stranger who happens to drive by who won the Battle of Culloden and when he answers that the English won (and not the Scots) she collapsed to the ground.
