12. Claire and Jamie’s first fight
This heartbreaking moment came early in Season 1, shortly after Claire and Jamie were married. It’s the first time you really see how much they love each other — ironically, while in a fight.
The moment comes just after Jamie rescue’s Claire from near-rape at the hands of “Black” Jack Randall. She was kidnapped while trying to make her way back to the stones after Jamie ordered her to stay in one spot.
When they reach safety, Jamie does not understand why Claire disobeyed him. Claire doesn’t understand why she needed to. It’s through this miscommunication that Jamie admits how fearful he was for her life and how powerless he really felt. He completely bears his shoulder to her and she finally sees him cry for the first time.
Claire, ashamed at having tried to leave, is unable to admit why she went running off. She suddenly realizes that staying with Jamie might not be the absolute worst thing in the world.
Take a look at the screen test from this moment, it’s actually the scene they rehearsed to get the job. Gives you chills, even without all the costumes, right?
