Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe is heading over to streaming giant Netflix as she has been cast in The Dark Crystal prequel series.

Netflix has announced that The Dark Crystal prequel series is a go and is expected sometime in 2019. Along with the announcement was the list of the cast involved in the project and Outlander star Caitriona Balfe was on the list.

Set before the events that occurred in the original 1982 Jim Henson movie, the prequel is to span 10 episodes and is to keep the original puppet work that was used in the movie. Caitriona, along with the other stars listed in yesterday’s announcement, will supply voice work.

More from Caitriona Balfe

According to the official press release by Netflix, Caitriona will voice the role of one of the Gelfling characters but hasn’t shared which voice exactly. She will star along with a huge list of well-known actors and actresses, including Star Wars legend Mark Hamill, Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer, Harry Potter (and The Crown) actress Helena Bonham Carter. Many others have also been named.

Not much is known about the prequel series. A small episode synopsis was released with the casting announcement but, apart from that, there isn’t much else to tell about the up and coming Netflix Original. As soon as more details are released, I will make sure to let you know.

This won’t affect her commitment to Outlander. With the role being voice only, there isn’t as much time needed. Also, Outlander Season 5 filming doesn’t begin until next year, which means there’s time for Balfe to do her part without any clashes.
