4. Claire finding the skull

While in the middle of the storm, Claire finds shelter. It’s there that she finds the skull and the small gem. We knew this was coming, but it doesn’t stop this moment in Outlander Season 4, Episode 3 from standing out.

She has no idea who this skull belongs to. All she knows is that the person died horrifically and she has sympathy for him.

It’s only later that she sees the ghost and then finds out the skull is of a traveler. This is likely why the connection to the skull is so deep. Do all travelers share this sort of connection? It was extremely reminiscent of Claire touching Geillis’ bones.

3. Young Ian begs to stay

Young Ian doesn’t want to go back to Scotland. There isn’t a place for him there and as much as he misses his family, there’s too much to explore in the New World.

I love that we see Young Ian step up as a man. He stands up to Jamie and encourages Jamie to let him remain in the Colonies. This isn’t a tantrum, but a well-reasoned argument that shows the type of man Young Ian is becoming.

Plus, we get to see the awe in his eyes as he travels through the woods. He’s eager to learn more about the Native tribes. He wants to become part of the land and is extremely honorable to the locals who came first.
