4. We got reasons and debated arguments

There are times that Claire and Jamie can frustrate the hell out of me. One of those was in the Outlander Season 4 premiere when they gave Stephen Bonnet free passage. I know this was a moment from the books, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Their naivety at this moment was frustrating, especially knowing what Bonnet was going to do to them. Seeing them get played when usually they are two smart people was irritating.

I did fear at one point that we’d get more of that in “Do No Harm.” However, we got some well-reasoned debates and explanations on why they couldn’t do something. Their naivety was understandable when it came to the slaves because part of their thinking was my thinking — what was in their way to stop them freeing the slaves when they took over the plantation?

There are still elements of their naivety and lack of thinking that frustrates me, but less so in this episode. Seeing the law being explained to both Claire and Jamie was important. Not only did we get a 20th-century woman learning more about the 18th-century way of life but we got a Scottish-born-and-bred man learning about the Colonial way of life.
