Outlander casting: Who is Kyle Rees?
Outlander Season 4 has its John Quincy Myers. Introduced in Episode 2, we got a chance to see Kyle Rees in action. Now let’s learn more about the actor.
Outlander Season 4 hasn’t just brought us a new world. We have a new set of characters for the Frasers to meet. One of those was introduced in Episode 2.
John Quincy Myers is played by Kyle Rees, a Welsh-born actor who tweeted along with fans of the series throughout the night, despite it being way past midnight in Britain. While he may be new to the world of the Sassenachs, he has plenty of experience on stage and screen, which will hopefully put many minds at ease as his story continues — whether that’s the same as the novels or changed to suit the time and money constraints.
Plenty of period drama experience
It can sometimes be worrying about whether an actor has the experience for a role. When it comes to period dramas, you don’t need to worry about Rees. He’s done plenty, including the popular The Bastard Executioner.
He even has experience with STARZ period dramas. Rees was in an episode of Da Vinci’s Demons, which ran for three seasons and starred Tom Riley as Leonardo Da Vinci. The role may have been small but it’s certainly one to add to the resume.

Rees is a stage actor as well as a TV and film actor. There’s a lot of extra work that goes into production on the stage, including the need to get it right on the night. This type of experience comes in handy when filming since there are fewer takes and a potentially better performance overall.
He will certainly fit in with much of the Outlander cast. Colin McFarlane, who plays Ulysses in Season 4, also has a stage background. Sam Heughan has also worked in theater, among so many others.
The style of acting can also be different for stage performers. Considering the lively nature of John Quincy, this experience will certainly be useful.
