24. When Jamie sees Claire is back

When it happened: Season 3, Episode 5

Any tension between Claire and Jamie? Apprehension but definitely no tension between them.

Why it’s the best: We barely got anything of Jamie for a whole episode in Outlander Season 3, Episode 5. This episode was all about Claire making the decision to head back through the stones. It was about giving us something between Claire and Brianna and then really focusing that relationship between Brianna and Roger.

What we did get of Jamie was priceless. After Claire steps through the stones (we just get the view of puddle to puddle for money and ease), she heads straight to Edinburgh and the printshop. Jamie doesn’t realize it’s Claire at first, not looking up to see who had walked in. When he does see her, he stops in his tracks.

This is a man who had spent years dreaming of Claire returning to him. He hoped and prayed that she was safe in the future but missed her greatly and now she was back. You could see the confusion, the shock, the happiness, and every other emotion on his face. You could tell that he didn’t actually know how to feel and whether he actually believed Claire was really there.

And as the emotions got too much, he fainted beautifully. If Claire thought she was nervous at first, how did she feel realizing she’d made her husband faint?
