When it happened: Season 5, Episode 12

Any tension between Claire and Jamie? Not between the couple. The tension came from the trauma Claire had faced and the threat of the storm rolling in—it’s almost time for the Revolutionary War.

Why it’s the best: Jamie had rescued Claire from her captors and given her time to heal. With the storm rolling in, we got to see Claire in a vulnerable position, wrapped in Jamie’s arms. It could make a woman feel nervous, but she knew that the man she was with would never hurt her.

She’d opened up to him. Whether she told him the whole story is unclear, but she told him something. She found the words, something that Roger had previously admitted to Brianna must be awful to figure out. Yet, Claire found the words and trusted them to Jamie.

In the end, Jamie just held her. He comforted her, and then asked her how she felt. There was just one word to describe Claire in that moment: Safe. She felt safe with Jamie. He was her protector. He was her love.

Jamie isn’t going anywhere. Claire is with Jamie forever. The two are stronger together than apart, and they will always protect each other and be each others’ safe places.
