2. Peaky Blinders

Number of seasons: 4 (so far)

Who it stars: Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Joe Cole are among the list of stars. It also guest stars big names such as Tom Hardy, Aiden Gillian, and Sam Neill.

What it’s about: Set in Britain just after the First World War, the show takes us back on the streets. Thomas Shelby is back from the Great War and ready to lead his gang, The Peaky Blinders, again.

The show takes us through the ups and downs of this gang, showing us the growth to the top. Peaky Blinders Season 5 is currently filming and we’re not on the downfall of the gang.

Why watch it: When you need a show set in the past, Peaky Blinders offers it all. You’ve got a man struggling with the repression of the class system. All Thomas wants is to have a life after the war, but he soon realizes that life isn’t any easier.

Throughout the series, there’s love and loss. There’s betrayal and distrust. There are touches on all types of events that happened after the Great War, including the rise of the IRA, the rise of communism, and the threat of another war just decades later.

Even though you know the gang are in the wrong, they’re the best of a bad bunch. You find yourself rooting for those who aren’t necessarily following the law because they have a cause that you can understand.
