If you can’t get enough of Richard Rankin in Outlander, there’s another place to turn to soon. He’s just landed his role of BBC’s Trust Me Season 2.

Richard Rankin may be our Roger Wakefield MacKenzie in Outlander, but he’s done a number of other exciting and funny roles. Now he has his chance to play a slightly darker role in Trust Me Season 2 from BBC.

The British network shares that he’s playing a character called Dr. Alex Kiernan, who is fun and dedicated on the surface. however, there’s a steely ambition (what doctor isn’t ambitious) rooted deep within. Despite being professional on the outside, there’s an undercurrent of threat for the characters in the series underneath.

This is certainly going to be exciting. After all, we’re used to seeing Rankin in the sweet, honorable role of Roger Wakefield MacKenzie. Despite never really knowing Claire Randall and never meeting Brianna before, he connected to them instantly and helped search for any clue that Jamie was still alive in the past.

More from Casting

When Claire and Brianna gave up, Roger continued to research. It’s clear in Outlander Season 4 that he keeps this up, looking for any trace of Claire and Jamie in the past, finding them in the Colonies.

The Dan Sefton series was renewed for a second season in February 2018. Filming will be starting soon (if it hasn’t already) but it should be wrapped long before Richard Rankin is needed on set for Outlander Season 5–sorry, spoilers, as Roger is needed in the fifth season!

What about New York Comic-Con? The filming shouldn’t conflict with this. NYCC is major promotion for the show and it would take something extremely big to get Richard out of that contract, such as an illness or an accident. The BBC would want to work with STARZ on the schedule for this.

For those curious about Trust Me, Jodie Whittaker isn’t reprising her role as Ally due to her role on Doctor Who. Alfred Enoch is stepping up as the lead for the season.

As for other upcoming projects, you’ll be able to see Richard Rankin in an episode of Midsomer Murders. He’s in Season 20, Episode 4, titled “The Lions of Causton.”
