Netflix releases first look of Tobias Menzies in The Crown Season 3
Outlander’s Tobias Menzies is heading to The Crown for Season 3. Netflix has finally shared a first look at him playing Prince Philip.
Tobias Menzies may be known to us as Black Jack Randall and Frank Randall, but he’s taking on a royal role in his next project. He’s currently filming The Crown Season 3 and we’re finally getting that first look at his character, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
In case you missed it, Menzies was cast in the role earlier this year. He’ll be taking over from Matt Smith for the next two seasons. This was always the plan and all other characters are getting new stars in the roles. Menzies will be opposite Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth, while Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Daniels take on Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong respectively.

Netflix has already released first looks at the other stars in the series. Now it’s finally time to drop Tobias Menzies. Waiting so long wasn’t initially planned. Menzies shared that they were looking for the perfect image and now it seems they’ve got it.
The third season will begin in 1963, showing events such as England winning the World Cup in 1966 and the rise of the Beatles. Famous events throughout Britain have been shown from the royal family’s point of view, especially from Queen Elizabeth’s, showing their views and when they could and couldn’t do anything.
Fans will notice that Menzies’ hair is lighter than normal. This was noticed at Starfury’s Highlander’s 3 convention, which he was able to attend around filming in London. The Crown Season 3 filming continues and the series should be released on Netflix next year.
