Not looking forward to no Tobias Menzies in Outlander Season 4? Still struggling with Droughtlander? Amazon’s King Lear could be the perfect fix.
Droughtlander is dragging. There’s no doubt about it. And for those who tuned into Outlander to see Tobias Menzies (mainly because they hadn’t read the book and he was a recognizable name) then it’s understandable to be worried about the lack of Tobias in the fourth season. But there’s some good news for both Tobias Menzies fans and those who need help through Droughtlander.
The English actor will be in Amazon’s King Lear, set to drop on Sept. 28 on Amazon Prime Video. If you already have an Amazon Prime membership (probably to catch up on Outlander abroad or to watch Starz through Amazon Channels), you’ll get access to the Prime Original movie on the day at no extra cost.

Tobias Menzies plays the Duke of Cornwall in the modern day retelling of the series. Starring Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson, the movie will include all the Shakespearean language but with modern day costumes, settings, and weaponry.
If you haven’t seen the play or the screen adaptations, it’s about King Lear (funny that with the title, right?) who chooses to divide his kingdom between his three daughters. However, Lear wants his daughters to show him how much they love him and when daughter Cordelia refuses to flatter him, she’s cast out.

From this point, the family starts to crumble and King Lear loses his mind. Where does Tobias Menzies’ character come in? The Duke of Cornwall is eldest daughter Regan’s husband. If you enjoyed seeing Tobias push his talents to portray Black Jack Randall, you’re in luck.
Cornwall is an angry and sadistic man. He shows the abuse of power at its worst and hurts people just for the sake of it. I don’t want to give spoilers away for those who have never read, watched, or studies King Lear, but Cornwall will be everything that Black Jack Randall was. If you want spoilers, stop the trailer at 1-minute, 14-seconds and you’ll see one of the sadistic things he does!
