4. The greeting scene was longer than I remember

Every time I get to the greeting scene at the very start of the episode, it goes on for much longer than I remember. Every. Single. Time.

I’m really not sure why I cut so much of it out in my memory. Yet, each time I see the scene, I love it. There are so many interactions around. We get glimpses of new characters. The book fans have the nods to the upcoming storylines but for those watching for the first time, there’s the wonder of who they are.

Claire looking around is also fun to see. She feels like an outsider because that’s what she is. It brings a new meaning to “Outlander” and “Sassenach.

3. Mrs. Fitz doesn’t take too long to trust Claire

While everyone else wonders if Claire is a spy, Mrs. Fitz doesn’t really care. Well, okay, I tell a lie. At first, she’s weary, but that makes sense. This is a newcomer who has just been picked up from the road. And she certainly looks a state.

Once Mrs. Fitz sees what Claire can do and that she’s a good person, she immediately warms to her. I love how at the very end of Outlander Season 1, Episode 2 she’s hugging Claire with plenty of delicious food for the journey.

The trust is important for later. However, what I do always wonder is whether Mrs. Fitz tells Colum that Claire is a skilled healer. Otherwise, how does Colum find out about this?
