Today in Outlander history, Outlander Season 1, Episode 2 aired for the first time. The epic love story continued and this time for the fans.
Outlander Season 1, Episode 2 was the first episode to air for the fans. This was the episode that really pulled people in and started to fully develop the love story of Claire and Jamie. Those who had read the books knew what was coming and those who hadn’t could sense the sexual tension in the air.
“Castle Leoch” is one of my favorite episodes of the first season. It’s where it really all began for me. While pilots are written for the network execs, the second episodes are written for the fans. Without drawing the fans in through this episode there would be little luck for the whole show.

We got to know more about the characters in Castle Leoch. I adore the way Mrs. Fitz starts off cold but very quickly warms to Claire, clearly sensing that this is someone who is good for Jamie while everyone else believes she’s a spy.
Colum is a second favorite of mine in the episode. He’s what I’ve always pictured a laird to be. This is a man who knows what is best for his family and his clan but is cunning and smart when it comes to getting to the truth. If Dougal wasn’t so hot-headed, he’d be just as dangerous as Colum.
We also can’t forget the introduction of Geillis Duncan. I still wished we’d got more of her throughout the three seasons of Outlander. In fact, I’d have loved to learn more about her in the books. She’s one of those fascinating characters, clearly with her own agenda for what she believes are the right reasons. While we learned what that agenda was, I always wanted to know the full reason why. What drove her to that?
I’ll be watching Season 1, Episode 2 again tonight. Not like I need a reason, but the anniversary of the first time it aired is always a good enough one! Over the next few days, I’ll delve more into the episode, including my thoughts while rewatching, favorite lines, and best moments.
