Outlander is one of the Top 40 in PBS’ Great American Read list
PBS started its campaign to get more people reading by sharing the Great American Read list. Voting is still going and so far Outlander is in the Top 40.
Really, everyone is going to be a winner in the PBS’ Great American Read. The initiative is to get more people reading; encouraging them to read each of the books on the list. However, as Outlander fans, the series featuring Claire and Jamie’s love story is always going to be our favorite.
Diana Gabaldon has a way with words. While I admit sometimes the paragraphs could be shorter, there’s a flow that makes them work for the story. It wasn’t surprising to see that Outlander had made it to the Top 100.
Now we’ve got an updated list thanks to Thirteen. The site has given us the books that are in the Top 40 of the Great American Read, and sure enough, our favorite love story is on there. The list is in alphabetical order, so it’s not clear where in the Top 40 it is.

There is still time to get your votes in. So far, more than two million votes have been cast. That doesn’t mean two million people have voted. It’s possible to vote for multiple books on one day and you can also vote for the same book on a daily basis (you just can’t vote for it twice a day).
Voting will continue until Oct. 18 at midnight PT. There’s still plenty of time to get your votes in and you can keep coming back daily to add another vote. Check out this post about the Great American Read to find out how to vote.
While there’s already been an episode delving into each of the 100 books on the full list, there are more episodes to come. From Sept. 11, there will be an episode a week and it all finishes with the winner on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 8/7c on PBS.
