Nell Hudson may play a character everyone loves to hate, but she’s a sweetheart in real life. When she left a cryptic tweet, fans instantly hoped she meant the World Cup.

If something happened to Laoghaire, most of the Outlander fans probably wouldn’t care. She’s the character everyone loves to hate, often spiteful and vindictive. However, the feeling isn’t mutual for actress Nell Hudson. When she left a cryptic tweet yesterday, fans instantly hoped it was just the football (soccer) she was talking about.

Or Emmys. Fans would have been perfectly happy with her knowing about the Emmy nominations ahead of time.

What they really hoped was that it didn’t have anything to do with real life. It just goes to show how social media has helped fans separate actress and character, as we now get to see more of the real person behind the role.

At a little before 5 p.m. ET on July 11, Hudson tweeted a simple “robbed.” This was around the time that England has lost their World Cup 2018 semi-final game to Croatia, so was likely a comment about that. After all, all eyes around the UK were on the only national team to get through to the pre-qualifying games to get into the group stages. All expectations were exceeded in the team getting to the semi-finals and there were hopes that the team would progress to the final.

However, fans quickly feared that Hudson was talking about something real. Fans quickly took to Twitter to hope that she hadn’t really been robbed.

The tweet certainly had more meaning yesterday afternoon, as more fans saw it. The Emmy nominations had been announced with Outlander only gaining one nod for the costumes–and that wasn’t mentioned at the live viewing of the nominations. Did she have insider knowledge and know that the show, Sam Heughan, and Caitriona Balfe had all been robbed of nominations?

We certainly hope that it was just the football she was tweeting about and nothing too serious. Please let us know you’re okay, Nell!
