He was loyal to those he cared about

Jamie would have asked Fergus to come, but wouldn’t have fully expected it. However, Fergus happily went on the voyage to look for Young Ian. After all, they were like brothers. They’d grown up together and Fergus was one of the loyalists of people you would ever be able to find. This was why he would do anything for family.

Loyalty goes a long way in life now. It went an extremely long way in Outlander Season 3. Who didn’t cheer when Fergus learned he was officially a Fraser?

He never expected anything in return

That loyalty came without expectations. That may not have been the case as a child, but he always knew that he would have to look out for himself. The best example of him never expecting anything was when it came to his wedding. He didn’t have a last name and never once assumed that he was a Fraser.

We knew watching (even if we hadn’t read the books) that he was Jamie’s son. It was clear that Jamie would give him his last name, but Fergus never once expected it. All that loyalty and love came with no strings attached, and that’s what made him a man.
