#2. Delivering the baby

Brianna decides to keep the baby, but she’s certainly terrified that the birth is going to kill her. After all, giving birth was one of the most dangerous things a woman could do. Rather than go back through the stones, she wants both her parents by her side. Naturally, Jamie doesn’t really want to be there but he stays. He puts his daughter’s wants and feelings first.

This helps to add another layer to this bond between father and daughter. Being around for a birth wasn’t the norm for a man, even in the 1940s Frank wasn’t in the room for Brianna’s birth and it wasn’t normal in the 1970s for Brianna either. They shrugged off their expectations and social norms for something that was perfect for them as a small family.

#1. Agreeing the handfasting was a wedding

After months of searching for Brianna a husband and some hiccups along the way, Roger and Brianna are finally reunited and admit that there was a handfasting. While Aunt Jocasta doesn’t believe the handfasting stands, Jamie does. Well, at least, he claims this is what he believes because he knows that it will make his daughter happy.

There’s a beautiful moment between Roger and Brianna and their son, and it’s all thanks to Jamie and his decision to put his daughter first. This should be something we all expect, but in the 18th century, this was a huge step for a dad and something we can’t wait to see in Outlander Season 4.
