Friday Fitness Challenge: Rower challenge with Sam Heughan demonstrating
Men’s Health ZA has a Friday Fitness Challenge for you to take on. This week sees Outlander’s Sam Heughan demonstrate so you get the best form.
How many calories can you burn on a rower? That’s the Friday Fitness Challenge from Men’s Health ZA this week. However, this isn’t just any fitness challenge. It’s an Outlander fitness challenge, as Sam Heughan is the one demonstrating how to safely work the rowing machine.
Heughan really is the person you want to take fitness tips off. He’s completed two marathons in two months, both setting personal bests for himself. This was his Peak Challenge, which is a challenge he co-runs to encourage others to get fit and live healthier lives.

The Friday Fitness Challenge involves using the rower for 60 seconds. That’s it! You can do one quick burst to see the number of calories you can burn. Want to beat that? Do another 60 seconds on the rower. Before you know it, you’ll have done 20 minutes of rowing because you’re constantly trying to beat yourself!
Follow the video to see the form to make the most out of your rowing. This is one of those machines a lot of people get wrong without direction. It’s common to raise your hands to hook the rower over your knees on the way back, but your hands should already be past your knees when sliding back in. You also want to keep your back straight and shoulders even.
Now is your chance to take on your own Friday Fitness Challenge. Now if only watching Heughan at work would burn calories, right?
