Tobias Menzies has taken over the role of Prince Philip on The Crown Season 3. Here’s all you need to know about the filming of the series.
It was no secret that Netflix’s The Crown would change actors for the main roles after the first two seasons. The show was pitched as a six-season show with two changes of actors every two seasons. Despite Matt Smith making a name for himself as Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, that role is being passed onto Outlander‘s own Tobias Menzies for The Crown Season 3.
Left Bank, which is also one of the production companies involved in Outlander, is getting ready for filming the third season of the series. New sets will be built, as the company now has permission to expand its filming to more areas of London. Buckingham Palace needs extending and 10 Downing Street needs more work for the season.

The Crown Season 3 will begin filming this summer, according to Variety. The great news for Outlander‘s Frank Randall fans is that the filming for Outlander Season 4 won’t clash. If Menzies is going to return to the role for the fourth season (possibly in flashbacks or memories), then there won’t be an issue to get him between London and Scotland.

Very little is know about the third season of the Netflix series so far. There’s going to be another time jump throughout the season, taking fans from 1964 to 1976 of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. It’s to pick up from Prince Edward’s birth and then expand over the next 12 years. Elizabeth and Philip were last seen finally coming back to each other and finding a balance after a questionable period in their marriage. This season will also likely see the downfall of Princess Margaret’s marriage, with the start of the downfall hinted at towards the end of the second season.
An exact date for the filming hasn’t been given yet. It’s also not clear if Menzies will have the chance to film any Game of Thrones scenes, since he played the role of Edmure Tulley in the series, who is still alive in a dungeon somewhere.
